Notes & Links from “How to Get Into Search Engines Fast and Free”

Today's seminar was about techniques and tips to get your site indexed in search engines, the first step of a multi-part search engine optimization campaign.

Search engines use “spiders” that “crawl” the Internet, following links throughout the world wide web and indexing all the pages it comes across. The most important things to get your site indexed well is good, relevant textual content, which includes meta tags, page content, alt tags for images, and appropriate titles and page addresses. For maximum indexing, use a sitemap so search engines can find all the pages of your website, including the ones that aren't linked from anywhere in your site. You can use RSS feeds and submit them to sites like Feedburner.com and other aggregators to inform sites of your new content.
